As Acadiana’s only nonprofit hospice provider, we rely on the support and generosity of our community. Hospice of Acadiana Foundation provides for the unreimbursed care and support services of our terminal patients and their families – in whatever capacity that may be. Donate Legacy LeafTrained volunteers support our patients and their families in addition to Hospice professionals. Volunteers spend quality time with patients, whether they're talking and reading to the patient or engaging in activities like listening to music or playing cards. They enable caregivers to take breaks and support families by providing transportation, running errands, and caring for pets. In addition to practical help, volunteers give emotional and spiritual support to families in transition. They also comfort family and friends who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
Pets are a special source of unconditional love and comfort. Through our Pet Peace of Mind program, we help ensure that pets of families in transition receive care and support, too. We provide volunteers who:
Other resources include pet food for those in need, funding for emergency pet boarding, and finding new homes for pets, if and when needed. Pet Peace of Mind services are available through a grant from Banfield Charitable Trust.
We understand that veterans may have special medical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs, and we are committed to giving them the support they deserve. Our We Honor Veterans Program is the only Level-4 Program in Acadiana, the highest designation any agency can achieve. This designation means we have demonstrated our commitment to improving care for veterans and their family members.
We Honor Veterans is an initiative of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This affiliation enables us to offer specialized programs for our veteran patients, including educational programs and support from veteran volunteers.
