About The Calcutta House

Facility Details

Hospice of Acadiana’s inpatient hospice house, Calcutta House, was designed to provide state-of-the-art care and healthcare-grade design and finishes, while creating a calming and tranquil space that feels residential in nature. The facility is opened 24 hours day, 365 days per year.

Named the Calcutta House, in homage to Saint Teresa of Calcutta’s work with the dying, the facility is an ode to Acadian style architecture native to the area. Equipped with 12 private patient suites, a family consultation room, a family gathering room, and full-size warming kitchen that opens out to a southern style front porch, the facility offers all the conveniences of home. The facility also includes a small Chapel overlooking a brick grotto, an exterior meditative butterfly garden, a welcome fountain, and gazebo.

In 1983, Hospice of Acadiana was founded as a non-profit organization when we saw a need for end-of-life comfort care in our area. We were the first hospice in our community, and today, we are still the only non-profit hospice agency in Acadiana.

Hospice of Acadiana is YOUR community hospice, and we will walk this journey with you.

Hospice of Acadiana cares for all ages and hospice diagnoses, regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. We have many experienced hospice clinicians including several that are Certified Hospice and Palliative Care. We have supported tens of thousands of families throughout Acadiana and are proud to be setting the standard of excellence for hospice care in our community.
